Despite one of the 2pt bets winning, a small loss produced on the day. Overall a mixed bag, but that is certainly expected at this time of year with the start of the flat season and the end of the AW and NH season. We also acknowledge that the volume of bets has gone up, but we remain confident that we'll counter this with more winners. It remains to be said that if you are uncomfortable with staking too many points per day, either reduce your stakes, or feel free to get in touch with us, and we can advise.

For any people who play forecasts etc, we landed one in the 4.00 Southwell, with the payout £24.43 for a £1 stake, and we were damn close to another, in the 7.15 Wolves.

Two underdog bets, and one duly obliged, with Darlington coming from behind to win away at Kidderminster. Newcastle drifted out to 6/1 around 30 mins before kick off, but they could only hold Man U (we feel they were slightly hard done by with a very valid penalty turned down in the 2nd half!)

Grand National Day:
Many congratulations to Ballabriggs and jockey Jason Maguire, who fought back injury sustained on the first day at Aintree to hold off Oscar Time in the 4.15. Our thoughts however turn to Ornais and Dooney's Gate who were both fatally injured. It is something that no horse racing or sports fan wants to see, but it is unfortunately a risk which will also remain.
On a personal note, our two bets advised in the National ended up with Majestic Concorde running very well early on, but after looking like weakening, the rider became unseated. Quinz was also running well, but pulled up - the temperature a likely factor.

Apologies firstly, and thanks to those who pointed it out. I made a slight error in my calculations for Tuesday's results, recording a 0.5pts profit, when in fact it was a 0.5pt loss on the day.

Finally, today shows the importance of getting Best Odds Guaranteed on your selections. Angelena Ballerina was advised at 7/2, but drifted to 11/2 SP, meaning this gained us an extra 2pts of profit alone. We only put up prices at BOG bookmakers and this is to ensure we can allow for situations like this. It may not last forever, but while we can, it is imperative to use it. Also, when it wins, bookmakers aren't as sour, because at least it means your not trading your picks!

As we are now posting football bets early, we will be making small changes to the way we settle prices. If a football bet is listed with a price, like the one today, it is because we feel that the value is there currently and that the price will eventually shorten (most of the time.) Therefore, we will settle these football bets at the prices advised. Any other football bets not listed with an early price, like the 'long list' on Saturdays, will be settled by the usual method of the last price traded either on Betfair, or at the big Asian bookmakers, such as Pinnacle, SBO, 188bet etc.

Could have been more though, as Everton saw a perfectly good goal ruled out (goal-line technology debate continues) which if given could have seen that result in our favour, while Bolton found Birmingham's Ben Foster in inspired form to keep them out. Still, profit is profit.

Unfortunately this takes us back in negative figures overall once more. The good run was certainly most welcome, but with the start of the Flat season and the end of the National Hunt and All Weather, as explained earlier, we fully expect a variety of things to be influencing factors. It's all a learning curve.

(For any of you that play forecasts then yesterday would have been nice, with the 8.40 at Wolves returning a SF of £16.03, and the exacta at £15.50 (for a £1 stake.) You would have also secured a return in the 6.10 @ Wolves, although the SF of £1.85 is hardly much to cheer about! It is tempting to sometimes suggest bets like these, but we feel that realistically we can't make money from them in the long run. Some compilers who 'rate' races may feel they can, but their methods are different to ours. We focus on picking winners rather than taking on handicappers etc. That is not to say they can not be 'fun' bets from time to time, because some payouts can be pretty hefty for small stakes.)
