Burnley couldn't find a way through Derby, drawing 0-0 = -2pts

A really bad day. It happens sometimes with some bigger priced stuff, and we have in all honesty had a decent run on larger priced stuff recently. Having said that, if either Treehouse or Matmata could have finished, may have been a different story. -8pts

Saturday 21st
The Rainbow Hunter 2nd, but a good few lengths back, again though at 10/1 SP = -1pt
Busy Isit pulled up = -1pt

Violin Davis WON @ advised 5/1, after a super run. Well backed too = +5pts
All For Free always battling = -1pt
Wisecraic just one paced as another 2pt bet bit the dust = -2pts
The Strig, a narrow 2nd, just required a bit more = -1pt
Reindeer Dippin WON @ advised 7/1, going off a well backed 4/1f. Ridden well to win with ease = +7pts
Sphinx weakened = -1pt
Tatenen WON @ advised 12/1, again backed a touch into 8/1 SP. Just held on by a head with the last stride = +12pts

So overall a really good Saturday, with 3 winners with two 2nd places as well. A very healthy +16pts added to the bank, but also a notice of a nice bit of fortune with Tantenen to win so late on!

Sunday 22nd
Swansbrook drifted in the betting, and was never threatening = -1pt

Monday 23rd
Might Clarets, another 2pt loser, but was heavily backed, but lacked the final pace = -2pts
City Legend WON @ 4/1 staying on just, despite leading from 5f out = +4pts
Spin Cast only 3rd, but one paced = -1pt
Vanilla Rum never troubling = -1pt

So with one winner @ 4/1, but 4pts lost, it is a nothing day.

Horse Racing Summary
Very nice to get another big day behind us to boost the numbers. Has been a while since we have had a good day, when racing is known to be extra competitive. 6 winners over the period, and 27 losers, which in all honesty is in keeping with our average strike rate. +5.1pts is the profit over the period, with that bad Friday affecting things. One thing which has been noted, is the performance of the 2pt bets, which is not up to where we would like it to be. We are not doing anything differently, but it is being monitored closely.

Overall, just two winners from the period, but it has been quiet. In all honesty, as i said earlier, with frost, the cold and conditions dictating meetings are off etc, it can be a tricky period. I am happy to have a small number of selections through times like this for sure.

Jump City 2nd by 1/2 a length. Ran well, but the fav just had too much = -1pt
Grey Wulff was going well, and about to pull clear, and probably win, before falling 3 out when 3 lengths or so clear = -1pt
Complex WON @ adv 12/1, just holding on, running on well to win = +12pts

After seeing Grey Wulff, one had to think it was going to be another of those days. Fortunately Complex saved the profits :) = +10pts

Tuesday 10th Jan:

Swaling had just started to tail off when a mistake was made = -1pt

Arctic Actress, always held up, but lacked necessary pace to win = -1pt

The Falklander WON, and drifted to 11/4 SP, pulling away well = +2.75pts
Desert Strike, took time to get going, but always too far behind = -1pt
Mister Mackenzie 3rd as the 2pt bet, but not enough = -2pts

So, after the first two came home, was hoping for a couple of more winners to really make an improvement on Year Two profits, but we will just have to settle for +12.75pts

Football:

Just the three selections, with a couple of European leagues easing back in from the Winter break, and the English football dominated by FA Cup.

Catania lost away 2-0 to Bologna = -1pt
Chesterfield lost 2-0 at home to Exeter = -1pt
Vallecano beat Sevilla 2-1, with the closing lines showing 7/4 was achievable. Those of you who got down early may have been able to snaffle some of the 2/1+. Well done. +1.75pts

So a small loss of -0.25pts on footy unfortunately.

In summary, the weekend was poor, but has been rescued by decent days on Monday and Wednesday. The volatility in horse-racing is evident, and those who bet on it, should understand this more than anyone. As we have seen, a whole day of losers, can be wiped out with one winner, so keep up with those thick skins, never getting too down, but also never getting too carried away.

Despite the lower strike rate, the big winners we hit have boosted our ROI significantly. Here's hoping this can continue.

Today's Bets and Results

Well with Ayr being called off, there are no bets today. Don't know about our readers, but here the weather is atrocious! So a day off here, and has given me time to get these results up to date.

Horses

Friday:

Captain Sunshine - second and lost by a neck, -1pt

Jaunty Journey - came third, -1pt
Captain Americo - came second, -1pt
Chester Lad - led for a good part of the race but soon tailed off, -1pt

So a bad day with no winners, -4pts.

Saturday:

Way Back When - was always in contention, but weakened at the end, -1pt

Mush Mir WON as our two point bet at 4/1, +8pts

Consult - came second after leading for parts of the race, -1pt
For Non Stop - came second, -1pt
Rowan Ridge - didn't have enough to challenge, -1pt
Silver Dollars - struggled and soon had no chance of winning, -2pts
Rapid Water - came last, -1pt

So our 2pt winner saves the day, and gives us +1pt.

Sunday:

Wogan - pulled up, -1pt
Ghizao - tracked leaders but lost pace and had no chance, -1pt
Mataajir WON after being crushed to an SP of 11/10. +1.75pts

So our shortest price wins and saves us, -0.25pts

Monday:

Kempski - pulled up, -1pt
Nowurhurlin - at the back all race and came last, -1pt
Jan Jandura - held up and couldn't challenge the winner, -1pt
Terra Bleu - another horse that got CRUSHED in to 11/8, but couldn't quite find enough, -1pt
Goring Two - traded odds on but couldn't find enough, -2pts
Action Impact WON at advised 7/4, +1.75pts

Not a good day, -4.25pts.

So for this period, we had 3W-17L and a -7.5pts loss. Not the greatest start to 2012 but not too damaging.

Colchester - won 2-0 +0.97pts
Wigan - drew 2-2 after leading 1-0, -1pt
Everton - late winner to win 1-0, +1.61pts
Gateshead - won 1-0, +1.65pts
Southend - won 4-1 away, +1.22pts
Watford - another 4-1 win, +0.78pts

Charlton - glad we put it out early as price got crushed, but a man off saw them lose 1-0, -1pt

Weston Super Mare - won 1-0, +2pts

Queen's Park - late winner to win 2-1, +1.55pts

Rochdale - drew 1-1, -1pt
Middlesbrough - lost 3-0, -1pt
Morecambe - won 1-0, +1.91pts
Scunthorpe - won 2-1, +2.2pts
Tranmere - our 2pt bet, conceded early and another saw that one go out the window, -2pts

So a very good period in football, seeing us with +7.89pts and 9W-5L. Hope this can continue.
